Drill, was born in Chicago around 2011 and first impacted on a global scale with Chief Keef’s breakthrough anthem I Don’t Like the following year. To all but the most dedicated fans, it’s almost indistinguishable from trap music, musically at least. It’s the same slow boom, the same rattling hi-hat. The difference is mainly about emphasis and attitude. It is defined by its dark, violent lyrical content and ominous trap-influenced beats. The beat tends to be of a slow tempo – usually 60 or 70 beats per minute. Anion Music produces a more spaced-out, futuristic style of drill music.
